Jim Yeager, speech and communications instructor: A.A., Rock Valley College; B.G.S., Northern Illinois University; M.A., Northern Illinois University.
Jim Yeager became the newest speech communication instructor and Director of Forensics at HCC when he joined the faculty in 2005. Jimís teaching style can be described as interactive. His personal philosophy is that since communicating effectively is a skill, students must practice it. Jim offers his students an opportunity to learn material through instruction then use material though participation. In Jimís classroom the students have as much to offer to the subject matter as the textbook does. Students will walk away from Jimís class with better developed communication skills and a better understanding of the messages that surround them, but also with a new appreciation for the different ways communication concepts relate to their lives. As a pop culture buff, Jim enjoys bringing in media such as movies or music to enhance students understanding that communication concepts surround them.
