Allen Redford, music instructor and director of choral music: B.M., Illinois Wesleyan University; M.M., Northern Illinois University; Advanced Certificate of Performance with an emphasis in conducting, Northern Illinois University.
Allen Redford founded the Highland Chorale and 80-voice mixed choir including both the College and the community in 1993. Some of the Chorale’s notable accomplishments include three European concert tours, an all Brahms program at Carnegie Hall, and being selected among the 100 choirs across the nation to receive a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to perform in “Continental Harmony” celebration in 2000. Allen is also the director of the Royal Scots, an award winning vocal jazz ensemble. He has been a member of Highland Community College’s faculty for nearly 15 years of the 25 years that he has taught music. He was honored with a Faculty Excellence Award in 1994. Allen is committed to preparing students for careers in music. His students successfully grow in their understanding of music and, ultimately, helps develop personal and professional goals. In addition to being an instructor and director, Allen is also a performer, and he’s a member of a band, The Usual Suspects, which performs throughout the area.
