Forensics team meets with success in Chicago Heights

This past weekend, the Highland Community College Forensics team traveled to Chicago Heights to compete in the Prairie State College Speech Tournament. Seven students competed in the tournament.

While all seven of them did well, Josh Naujokas and Alli Barr out-spoke their competitors during preliminary competition and took speeches into the final rounds. Alli Barr took third place out of 10 students, in Dramatic Interpretation (dramatic monologue).

Josh Naujokas took sixth place in Impromptu Speaking (out of 18 students) and second place, out of 12 students, in Speech to Entertain (humorous persuasion). Both Alli and Josh broke these same events at previous tournaments and earned higher ranks overall. As a team, Highland placed seventh out of 10 schools total.

The team is ready for the next tournament at Elgin Community College on Saturday, Dec 2.

"I am very proud of all the hard work the students have been putting into their events, and I expect that we will only perform better as the season progresses," said Bill Lucio, Forensics team coach. "We will be hosting another showcase event called, "Fa La La La Forensics" at the end of November. The showcases we host on campus are great opportunities for the team to practice in front of an audience."

The back row (coaches) is Brit Williams and Bill Lucio. The front row is Michelle Johnson, Alec Aurand, Alli Barr, Josh Naujokas, Krischan Heitz, Miah Dagle, and Owen Bennett.
