HCC Photography Instructor to Exhibit at Monroe Arts Center
6/9/2009

Sam Tucibat, instructor of Photography, Graphic Design, and Journalism at Highland Community College, has been invited to exhibit his digital photographic art this summer at the Monroe Arts Center in Monroe, WI. Tucibat will join local artists Dale Johnson, Lena, and Star Hauki, Rockford, to create an exhibit entitled "Reality3" which presents unique interpretations of reality from artists who work with different styles and media. The exhibit's opening reception will be held Thursday, June 18, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the art center's Frehner Gallery at 1315 11th Street, Monroe. A gallery talk will be held during the first 30 minutes of the opening.

"I am honored to be invited into this exhibit," Tucibat said. "It's important to me to always be creating new work and showing it. I'm constantly coaxing students to create and display their art, and I strongly believe that instructors should practice what they preach, and do what they teach."

Tucibat's artist's statement explains the kind of images he makes: My compositions are created from individual photographs captured amid the natural beauty and rustic architecture of northwest Illinois, near the Mississippi River. The images are combined and manipulated in the digital darkroom to create a result that is visually unique, but preserves the spirit of the places in which the photographs were originally taken.

The image-editing program Adobe Photoshop is the main tool Tucibat uses to create the photographic composites he displays. This fall at HCC he'll begin teaching a course in this software entitled "Digital Image-Editing With Adobe PhotoShop." For more information, contact the Admissions Department at Highland, (815) 235-6121 or visit the HCC website, www.highland.edu. Tucibat may be contacted directly at sam.tucibat@highland.edu, or by visiting his website, www.samzart.com.
