New CNA Classes to Start At HCC West
Highland Community College officials announced on Thursday that a new Certified Nursing Assistant program will start soon at HCC West in Elizabeth. During an Open House held at HCC West, Director of Nursing Dr. Shannon Lizer, announced that the program will begin as soon as the site receives official approval. The College anticipates the first class at HCC WEST will begin in late February or early March.
The Highland certified nurse assistant program curriculum prepares students to take the state certificate exam for nursing assistants. Upon successful completion of the exam, students may work as nursing assistants. The CNA program provides a foundation for all other nursing programs at HCC.
The new class will be limited to 10 students and interested individuals may add their name to a waiting list by calling (815) 599-3612. The first ten students on the list will have priority placement in the new class. The College intends to repeat this course regularly as enrollment demands.
“The College has had requests for the program in Jo Daviess County,” said President Joe Kanosky. “We’re pleased to have the opportunity to address the critical nursing shortage and community needs in Jo Daviess County. We believe this is another example of our commitment to serve the entire College district.”
CNA’s often work in direct patient care in nursing homes, hospitals, or other medical facilities. According to salary.com the average annual earnings for a CNA in northwest Illinois are $20,187 - $22,941.
