NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Agreement Will Aid Transfer Between HCC, Rockford College
2/28/2008

Students transferring to Rockford College from Highland Community College in Freeport will find the process a little more seamless thanks to a new compact agreement between the two schools.

Under terms of the agreement, signed recently by representatives of the two colleges, students with an associate of arts or associate of science degree will transfer to Rockford College with junior standing and all passing grades will be transferred. Highland students will need to take an additional course or two to meet Rockford College’s general education requirements, but otherwise it’s fairly seamless.

Jennifer Nordstrom, associate vice president for undergraduate admission and strategic marketing at Rockford College, says the agreement is mutually beneficial to students, because it allows a smooth transition to the liberal arts college. “The agreement will save time and expense for many transfer students,” she says. “By being able to easily transfer all courses in, Highland students will be on a much clearer path to reach their goals.”

Such transfer agreements are becoming more common, particularly between community colleges and four-year colleges, which is the logical next step for many students. Rockford College’s proximity to Freeport--about 40 miles--is an extra plus.

Thedford Jackson, transfer coordinator at Highland, says, “Many of our students live, work, and raise their families in northwest Illinois. This new agreement adds to the options available for our students planning to transfer to an institution close to home.”

Rockford College has a similar agreement with Rock Valley College, Rockford. Agreements with both colleges take effect immediately. For more information, call HCC at 815-599-3612 or Rockford College at 815-226-4050.

Founded in 1847, Rockford College has more than 50 majors and concentrations and an enrollment of 1,500 students. It has been cited as “A Best Midwestern College” by the Princeton Review.
