SBDC Helps Create 47 New Jobs in 2006
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Highland and Sauk Valley Community Colleges worked with over 200 clients during 2006, and reports that 47 new jobs were created by business owners and operators working with the SBDC in the HCC and Sauk Valley Community College districts. During the year, the program also assisted clients in securing over $3 million in loans and starting seven new start-up businesses.
The SBDC provides services for pre and new venture start-ups during their first year and consults with current businesses to assist with expansion and growth. During 2006 they topped 1,050 hours of business counseling in the 6 county service area that includes both Highland and Sauk Valley districts. The group has also created a new feasibility study that helps pre-venture entrepreneurs make decisions and set-up their initial business functions. Once clients complete the feasibility study, the SBDC helps to develop a business plan that can be used to secure financing.
The SBDC also sponsors an Entrepreneurs and Inventors Club which hosts regular meetings, a web site, and a blog. Details about meeting dates and locations, as well as more information about the SBDC are available on the Highland Community College web site at www.highland.edu or at www.hccbusinessinstitute.com.
