Highland Trustees Approve Contracts and Reorganize New Board
4/29/2011

FREEPORT The Highland Community College Board of Trustees approved a two-year extension of President Dr. Joe Kanoskys contract and a three-year agreement with the Highland Community College Custodial/Maintenance Union Local 1957 during their monthly meeting held April 26th.

Following its annual evaluation of the president, trustees voted to extend Dr. Kanoskys contract for two years. By this action, Dr. Kanoskys contract now runs through June 30, 2015.

The remaining terms and conditions of the contract remain unchanged at this time.

The Board of Trustees believes Dr. Kanoskys excellent work as president of the college was deserving of this action and vote of confidence, said HCC Board Chair David Shockey.

The agreement with the Highland Community College Custodial/Maintenance Union Local 1957 includes salary increases of 2% in each of the three years of the contract. The previous one-year contract with the union included no increase in salaries.

Upon concluding the business of the current board, Trustees adjourned the old board and reorganized the new board as a result of the April 5th election. Dr. Steven Jennings, of Freeport, Whittney Zumdahl, of Baileyville, and Douglas Block, of Pearl City, were seated to begin their six-year terms as trustees. Chelsey Kaiser was also seated as student trustee and will serve a one-year term.

The newly formed board then reorganized by electing David Shockey, of Ridott to a second term as chair and Douglas Block as vice-chair. Terri Grimes, of Freeport was re-elected as secretary.

Trustees approved three naming opportunities with respect to facilities in the Ray and Betty Stamm Health Science Nursing Wing following generous donations to the HCC Foundations Growing for tomorrowChanging lives today major gift campaign in support of the new wing. The Betty L. Stamm Simulation Lab; the James Jim Schneiderman Physical Assessment Lab; and the Bill and Lois Fieldsend Student Lounge will all be dedicated in the coming months.
