HCC to Hold Equine Science Program Open House

NORTHWEST ILLINOIS Highland Community College will hold an open house for individuals interested in the new Associate of Applied Science degree in Equine Science on Thursday, August 4, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Student/Conference Center on the HCC campus.

The program was recently approved by the Illinois Community College Board and Illinois Board of Higher Education and a full listing of courses are being offered this fall. We are excited about this new program, said dean of business and technology, Scott Anderson. The College is looking to serve an industry that has had a strong presence in this region for a long time.

The Equine Science program includes over 20 trade-specific courses such as, Equine Physiology, Equine Nutrition, Horse Handling, Riding I and II, and Stable Management I and II. Students need not be pursuing a degree to take Equine Science classes. We are encouraging individuals who are already working in the horse industry, or are equine enthusiasts, to take courses that they may find interesting or beneficial, said Anderson.
