Highland Adult Education offering free TABE testing sessions
11/30/2011

FREEPORT The Highland Community College Adult Education Program will be holding several Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) sessions this fall. The TABE is designed to assess an individuals readiness to participate in adult education programs such as GED preparation, Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes and tutoring.

Previously, the TABE was given during Adult Education orientation classes. The new open exam schedule will allow for testing to take place before students enter orientation classes.

By providing the TABE testing prior to orientation classes, our staff can respond quickly to a students desire to participate in adult education programming, said Mark Jansen, HCCs director of Adult Education. In addition, by having a snapshot of the student prior to orientation classes, we can anticipate and plan to meet the individual needs of a diverse student population.

The sessions are free and open to the public. Most testing sessions will take place on the HCC Campus. The Northwest Illinois Community Action Agency (NICAA) will also hold a TABE testing session at the U. S. Post Office in Freeport, located at 103 N. Chicago Ave. Please call 815.599.3460 to register or for specific locations of other testing sessions.

TABE testing dates:

December 13, 8:30 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 2:30 p.m.

January 5, 12:30 2:30 p.m.
