HCC Foundation announces ten new scholarship opportunities

FREEPORT The HCC Foundation has announced ten new scholarships for eligible Highland Community College students. With more than 200 scholarships available through the Foundation, award amounts range from $500 to $2,000.

This years additional Foundation scholarships include:

Cyril Broshous Memorial Scholarship
Full time sophomore students majoring in agriculture or environmental science. Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5, resident of Northwest Illinois and financial need will be a consideration. ($1,000)

Dr. Neal and Flo Chapin Wind Turbine Technology Scholarship
Applications will be accepted from full time students accepted into the Wind Turbine Technician Program. Min. GPA of 2.5. ($2,000)

Betty and Roger Dornink Memorial Scholarship
Applications will be accepted from full time sophomore students residing in rural areas of Highlands district. Min. GPA of 2.5 and financial need will be a consideration. ($600)

Sarah (Sally) Dupee Memorial Scholarship
Student must reside in the HCC District and be a full time student. Academic excellence will be a criteria and must demonstrate community involvement. Two scholarships at $800 each.

Todd Engelkens Memorial Scholarship
Applications will be accepted from full or part-time students studying or entering the Equine Program. Must live in the HCC District, Min. GPA of 2.0. Financial Need will be a consideration. ($500)

Jessica Theena Memorial Teacher Education Scholarship
Students must be at sophomore level for the fall semester, a resident of the HCC District with a Min. GPA of 3.5. This is for students with a major in Professional Education. Financial need will be a consideration. ($500)

Walker Mortuary, LTD.
Scholarships will be awarded to a current sophomore and an incoming freshman from Freeport High School. Applicants must be a resident of the HCC District. Financial Need will be a consideration. Two scholarships at $1,000 each.

Clarence Chapman
Students who attended Freeport High School and entering HCC full time in the fall and pursuing a degree in business or a related field. Financial need will be a consideration.

Betty J. Hayes Memorial Music Scholarship
Applications will be accepted from students who will be full time sophomore students studying music with first preference given to a student in a string instrument. Must be a resident of the HCC district, min. GPA of 3.0 and financial need will be a consideration.

Steve Mihina Scholarship
Applications will be accepted from entering sophomores who will be enrolled at Highland Community College this fall semester, as a full-time student, majoring in Mathematics-Science. Students must have completed Calculus II at Highland Community College. ($1,100)

Scholarship applications, full requirements and award amounts are available at the HCC Financial Aid Department or on the HCC Admissions Department homepage. In addition to the scholarship application, students are required to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine financial need. All applications are due by April 1.
