Highland's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society named 'Five Star Chapter'

FREEPORTHighland Community Colleges Nu Mu Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society has been recognized as a Five Star Chapter, the highest honor bestowed by PTK to a local chapter. Of the 56 active PTK chapters in Illinois, only 20 have received the five-star distinction. funny halloween pictures

On behalf of the outstanding chapter members and advisors of the Nu Mu Chapter, we express appreciation for your efforts toward providing rewarding educational experiences inside and outside the classroom, said Rod Risley, PTK executive director, in a letter to Highland administrators. funny pictures

As the ultimate goal of most chapters, the Five Star Development Plan is designed to engage PTK chapter members and college administrators, and motivate chapters to continually evolve on campus and in their communities. The plan also provides guidelines to recognize eligible students, as well as assistance in personal and professional development opportunities for members. funny images

Individual chapters at two-year institutions are required to set goals and check progress regularly in order to attain this honor. Highlands PTK chapter, in addition to regular fundraising for local charities, promoted the importance of college completion and researched how completion rates may be improved. funny photos

Our Highland Nu Mu Chapter members and the administration should feel rewarded by earning this distinction for their efforts, said Carolyn Petsche, director of learning services and chapter advisor at HCC. By choosing to focus on college completion as their project goal, this award will continue to benefit not only Highland, but all educational institutions.

According to the societys official website, PTK is the largest honor society in America representing higher education students. They currently have over 2 million members and 1,200 chapters located in all 50 states as well as the United States territories, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Germany, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, United Arab Emirates, and Palau.
