Highland Community College awarded Military Friendly School title
9/20/2012

FREEPORT Highland Community College has been named to the Military Friendly Schools list compiled by Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. The 2013 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace Americas military service members, veterans, and spouses as students.

We are very pleased to be recognized as a military-friendly college for the third year in a row, said Liz Gerber, associate vice president of student services. Highland provides a multitude of services through our veterans coordinator to help ensure that students transitioning from the military successfully complete occupational training or transfer on to a four-year institution.

Now in its fourth year, the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. A full story and detailed list of 2013 Military Friendly Schools will be highlighted in the annual G.I. Jobs Guide to Military Friendly Schools, distributed in print and digital format to active and former military personnel in early October.

Inclusion on the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools shows Highland Community Colleges commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students, said Sean Collins, Director for G.I. Jobs and Vice President at Victory Media. As interest in education grows, were thrilled to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools.

The Military Friendly Schools website features the list, interactive tools and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs and preferences. The 1,739 colleges, universities and trade schools on this years list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.

For veterans looking to attend college, Highland offers more than 60 programs of applied and transfer degrees, community education and business training. In addition to comprehensive academic programming, Highland provides theatre, art and music opportunities for the community. Visit the HCC website or call 815.599.3414 for more information.
