Highland Community College Alumni Association seeks new members

FREEPORTThe Highland Community College Alumni Association is planning to grow and expand its membership this year in recognition of the Colleges 50th anniversary year.

Cal Wescott, president of the Alumni Steering Committee, said that the 50th celebration provides a significant opportunity to search out as many Highland alums as possible. Wescott estimated that more than 50,000 students have attended Highland since the college was established in 1962. funny cartoons pictures

Our definition of an alum is simple, Wescott added. Its anyone who attended one or more classes, earned a certificate, earned an associate degree, participated in a seminar or other academic, or continuing education program. Our goal is to encourage as many alums as possible to join the Alumni Association. funny pictures

Wescott says they will continue promoting membership through social media like Facebook and the Highland College Alumni Association web page.

The Alumni Association will be partnering with the Highland Foundation, which plans to sponsor advertisements in local newspapers. The membership campaign will encourage businesses and organizations in northwest Illinois to ask their employees to identify themselves, sign up, and send in membership forms. There are no annual dues to belong to the Highland Community College Alumni Association. funny images

The Alumni Association is encouraging membership from Highlands four countiesJo Daviess, Ogle, Carroll and Stephensonas well as from across the country, said Wescott. We know there are thousands of alums all around. We want to locate them, get their contact info and then celebrate Highlands 50th birthday later in the year. funny photos

Wescott envisions an alumni network capable of supporting Highland students with scholarships and on-going educational projects. Professionally, he added that networking with fellow alumnus is also critical in the competitive economy, for employers and job seekers alike.
