HCC Fine Arts Department's annual jazz show celebrates 50th anniversary

FREEPORT—The Highland Community College Royal Scots and Big Band will present a special Spring Jazz Concert to commemorate the 50th anniversary of HCC. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27, in the Ferguson Fine Arts Theatre.

The annual jazz show has been a tradition since the Ferguson Fine Arts Center opened in 1973. Past directors and ensemble members from the first 50 years of HCC will be recognized throughout the program. Former members of the HCC Royal Scots and Big Band are invited to attend and celebrate Highland’s musical history.

The HCC Big Band, directed by Bill Petersen, will perform a variety of compositions in the styles of Basie, Ellington and Kenton. Under the direction of Allen Redford, the Royal Scots will perform a variety of jazz and contemporary pop arrangements from the Beatles to the Pentatonix. Also returning to the Highland stage, Quynetta Sanders will be featured as a guest soloist with both ensembles.

Tickets are $6 for students, $10 for adults and $8 for seniors. Call the Highland Community College Box Office weekdays between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at 815.599.3718 to reserve seats, or order tickets online at
