HCC Presents an Evening with Dan Balz of the Washington Post, Author of 'Collision 2012: Obama vs. Romney and the Future of Elections in America’

FREEPORT— Highland Community College is proud to present an “Evening with Dan Balz, Author of 'Collision 2012: Obama vs. Romney and the Future of Elections in America’” on Friday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ferguson Fine Arts Theatre on the HCC campus. A question and answer session, moderated by HCC instructor, Andrew Dvorak, will follow the presentation.

Dan Balz is chief correspondent at The Washington Post. During his more than three decades at the Post, he also has served as National Editor, White House correspondent, National Political Correspondent and Southwest Correspondent based in Texas. He also briefly reported from London in 1997.

His latest book, “Collision 2012: Obama vs. Romney and the Future of Elections in America” is a New York Times bestseller. The account of the 2012 election is a sequel to the book he co-authored with Haynes Johnson, entitled “The Battle for America 2008: The Story of an Extraordinary Election.” He also co-authored, with Ronald Brownstein, the 1996 book, “Storming the Gates: Protest Politics and the Republican Revival.”

Balz has received several awards for his coverage American politics and the presidency. He is a regular panelist on PBS’s “Washington Week” and MSNBC’s “Daily Rundown” and is a frequent guest on other programs.

Balz was born in Freeport, Illinois and is a 1964 graduate of Freeport High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in communications from the University of Illinois and served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1971. He is married to Nancy Johnson Balz. They are the parents of an adult son, John Balz.
