HCC to host Black History Month celebration

In recognition of Black History Month, Highland Community College will sponsor a free and open to the public celebration beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 28, on the second floor of the Student/Conference Center.

This year’s event will feature the music of Carl and Dianna Cole with Cole and Company, who will perform “A Night in Motown.” The show will be a journey through the history of Motown, with the music of several artists on the Motown label. It will be a night of music with the sounds of Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Diana Ross & the Supremes, the Four Tops, the Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, the Spinners, Gladys Knight & the Pips, with a special tribute to Stevie Wonder.

There will be a reception to meet with the Cole family. Carl and Dianna Cole have numerous CDs that will be available for sale at the event. Proceeds from the sale of the CDs will benefit Sounds of Good News Production programs like “Young Eagles Success,” “Yes” Club Kids program movement for “PEACE” (Positive Energy and Character Excellence,” which is a club the Cole family recently implemented at the Boys & Girls Club of Freeport/Stephenson County. Refreshments will be served.
