Del Scheider honored by HCC Foundation Board of Directors
Del Scheider of Red Oak was honored Thursday, October 16 at the annual meeting of the Highland Community College Foundation for his 40 years of service as a member of the Highland Community College Foundation Board of Directors.
R. Todd Weegens, president of the Highland Foundation, thanked Scheider for his many years on the Foundation board and announced that the Foundation had established the Del Scheider Agriculture Scholarship.
Applications for the $1,000 scholarship will be accepted beginning January 2015, from full-time students who have been accepted to attend Highland Community College, or who are currently enrolled. Applicants must be a resident of Northwestern Illinois and be pursuing a degree in agriculture.
Weegens noted that Scheider also was one of the original seven members of Highland College's governing body, the Board of Trustees, which was established in 1966.
Scheider served as a trustee from December 1966 to April 1978. He was Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 1974 to 1978, and also was Vice-Chair from 1973 to 1974.
Scheider was honored in May of last year with an Honorary Associates Degree from Highland for his many years of dedication and service to the College.
