HCC Foundation and Stephenson County Farm Bureau to Co-sponsor Estate Planning Seminar

The Highland Community College Foundation and the Stephenson County Farm Bureau will co-sponsor a special workshop on Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24, 2015 regarding estate planning.  The workshop, which is open to the public, is entitled "How to Keep Your Estate Plan Up-to-Date...And Avoid Family Feuds."

Keynote speaker for the event is Marc Carmichael, J.D., an attorney who has written and spoken extensively on estate planning to groups of attorneys, fundraisers, and consumers since 1976.  He is knowledgeable about estate planning issues as they relate to farmers, particularly charitable gifts of grain, unitrusts funded with grain and cattle, transfers of farms pairing family limited partnerships and charitable lead trusts, and gifts of remainder interests in farmland. 

After Carmichael's lead presentation, he will facilitate a panel of local professionals with expertise in different aspects of estate planning, including: financial planner Jim Endress, CPA Doug Freidag, trust officer Steve Kroeger, attorney David Shockey.

The workshop is open to the public, including, but not limited to, those persons who make their living in agriculture.  The Monday, March 23 workshop will be held from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Stephenson County Farm Bureau, 210 W. Spring St., Freeport, and will include dinner.  The same workshop will be repeated on Tuesday morning, March 24, from 7:30 to 10:00 a.m. at Student/Conference Center at Highland Community College, room H-201, and will include breakfast.
