"African American History Makers," will be presented at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 9 at the Clarence Mitchell Library, located on the second floor of the Marvin Burt Liberal Arts Center on the Highland campus, 2998 W. Pearl City Road in Freeport. The performers will take the audience on a journey through African American History by using stories, historical facts, poems, songs and more. The 50 minute presentation celebrates the accomplishments of African American history makers.

A second program, "Jumping Jambalaya: Bringing Black History to Life," will be presented at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9 in the Student/Conference Center in room H-201. The second program features music, poetry, traditional African instruments, stories, folktales and more. This energetic program is for all ages.

Baba Tony Brown and Kucha Brownlee are professional storytellers from Chicago. They have performed at the Chicago Public Library, Naper Settlement and other places around the United States. This dynamic storytelling duo combine their experience as performers to weave a rich tapestry of African, African-American and Spanish folk tales, frolicking fables, proverbs and dialect into their interactive cultural performance. The presentations are accompanied by musical melody, which includes playing the African Djembe, the shekere, mbira, banjo and other instruments. Their performance is enhanced by audience participation with singing, learning and just having fun. The duo have the ability to create an environment for growth and developing while educating and entertaining.
