Highland Phi Theta Kappa students named to All-Illinois Academic Team

Highland Community College's international honors society Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter has announced that Alexa Buss of Lena and Lucas Goncalves of Monte Siao, Brazil were named to the All-Illinois Academic team on April 19 at the President Abraham Lincoln hotel in Springfield.

Each year, two students from 32 community colleges in Illinois are nominated for superior academic standing, involvement on campus, and in their local communities.

Alexa Buss will graduate in May from Highland with an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration. Alexa is a former student trustee on the Highland Board of Trustees, is an active member of PTK, and has served as outreach chair on the Illinois Community College Board's Student Advisory Committee (ICCB-SAC). She plans to transfer to the University of Illinois to study Business Management. Her plans are to work in administration at a hospital, college, or university.

Lucas Goncalves is an international student. He will graduate in May with an Associate of Science degree in Engineering Technology. While a student at Highland, he has been actively involved with PTK and the Physics Club. He plans to transfer to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville to study electrical engineering. He would like to work in the telecommunications industry.

The All-Illinois Academic Team recognizes high-achieving two-year college students who demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual rigor, combined with leadership and service that extend their education beyond the classroom to benefit society.
