As part of Women’s History Month, join the Highland Diversity Committee and Pride Club for a memorial reading of the works of feminist scholar bell hooks. Attendees are welcome to bring one of hooks’ works to read aloud or simply listen and learn about hooks’ contributions to women’s history and activism.

bell hooks is the pen name of the late Gloria Jean Watkins, who died on December 15, 2021 at her home in Berea, Kentucky. hooks was one of the country’s leading intersectional feminist scholars and the author of more than 30 books. Her first book, “Ain’t I a Woman? Black Women and Feminism,” was published in 1981 and helped shaped feminist scholarship in America. In her writing, she addressed issues including race, gender, sexuality, class, geography, teaching and love. She also wrote poetry and children’s books.
