Some of Us are Brave: Misogynoir and the Fight for Suffrage

Thursday, February 13, 2020

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Location: Clarence Mitchell Library

Brittany Hutchinson, assistant curator at the Chicago History Museum, will examine the ways in which black women were systematically occluded from the historical record of the suffrage movement and the compounding effects of misogynoir on how women’s history is recorded and recounted. By centering black women and their impact on women’s rights, this talk also seeks to approach the subject of woman’s suffrage through the lens of third world feminism.
