Survivor and/or beneficiary benefits are available in the event of death. The amount available to your survivor/beneficiary is dependent upon your retirement plan, and if you are in pre or post retirement.
Worker’s Compensation
If loss of life results from a job related accident or illness, your dependents may be eligible for a $1,750 lump sum benefit and an annuity of 66% of your weekly salary to a maximum of 133% of the average weekly wage in the State.
HCC Basic and Supplemental Life
All employees who work 32 or more hours per week are eligible to receive a term life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment policy in the amount of $40,000 or 1.5 times their base annual salary rounded to the nearest $1,000 (whichever is greater) beginning on the first day of employment.
An employee can option for insurance on their spouse and dependents or for additional insurance on themselves. The employee is responsible for the monthly premium payments for all supplemental insurance through payroll deduction.
Once a year during open enrollment, employees have the opportunity to increase supplemental life insurance on themselves by $10,000 without having to provide evidence of insurability.
