The annual Festival of Giving Toy Drive is on Friday, Dec. 13 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Student/Conference Center (building H) at Highland Community College 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.
The Festival of Giving Toy Drive was started by Alicia Kepner, Coordinator, Nursing and Allied Health Programs, seven years ago with the help of Big Radio.
Kepner said she had a dream to help as many kids as she could, so she shared her vision with Big Radio, who jumped at the chance to help.
“From the individuals bringing in toys, to the businesses donating items for our auction, it takes everyone to make it happen. It means so much to those on the receiving end to be able to provide their child with something on Christmas morning,” said Kepner.
The toys and the money raised go to the Salvation Army. In 2018, 1,519 toys were collected and $9,582 was raised through donations and those biding on auction items.
“It is my favorite day of the year,” Kepner said. “To see how much love and support is located in our community is nothing short of miraculous, which is what the season is all about. To shape a community, we need to work together and there are a lot of people who come together for our toy drive to make it a success.”
The event is broadcasted on the radio, including the auction. Anyone is welcome to bring a gift or call to bid on an item. Listen to 92.1 FM or call 815-599-3591.
