The Highland Community College Music Department will present a concert featuring the Highland Chamber Singers at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 10 at Grace Episcopal Church, 10 S. Cherry St, Freeport, Ill.

The Chamber Singers is an open enrollment ensemble of community members and students, who will perform a concert called “Folksongs from Around the World.”

“To know the music of a culture is to know its people, what they love, what they fear, why they cry, and what they hope,” said Randy Haldeman, Choral Director. “The Chamber Singers have been immersed in these 14 cultures for a dozen weeks of rehearsal, and now hope to share their understandings with you.”

The Chamber Singers, a select ensemble of student musicians, perform works from the standard choral repertoire and contemporary compositions of the highest standard. Enjoy the music of different cultures sung in 10 original languages while surrounded by the exquisite 19th century stained glass windows of the chapel, a local treasure unparalleled in the region.

The concert is free and open to the public.
