Highland Community College to present spring choral music concert

FREEPORT– The Highland Community College Fine Arts Department will present a program of choral, orchestral and piano music on Sunday, April 23 at 3 p.m. in the Ferguson Fine Arts Center.

The Highland Chamber Singers, under the direction of Allen Redford, and the Highland Chorale, directed by Heidi Spotts-Manthey, will each perform a variety of choral literature including traditional and contemporary selections along with folk songs and spirituals.

A group of HCC students coached by Rianna Caswell will form a chamber string ensemble to perform works which will include a string quartet by Antonin Dvorak, and individual piano students will be presenting the works of Liszt and Chopin.

The culmination of the program will be a performance of the masterwork, “Gloria” by French composer Francis Poulenc with members of the Chamber Singers, Chorale, and orchestra along with featured soloist Megan Besley.

Soprano Megan Besley is a highly lauded performer with a professional singing career that spans more than 15 years. A Freeport native, Megan attended Highland Community College during her freshman year of college and was a member of the Highland Chorale. She has fond memories of performing “Carmina Burana,” and traveling with the choir to Austria on tour. She is excited to have the opportunity to perform with the Highland Chorale as the soprano soloist for this performance of Poulenc’s “Gloria.”

Tickets for the performance can be purchased here or by calling the box office at 815.599.3718.
