One Book One Highland: The Library of Babel Read Out

October 12, 2023 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

As the effectiveness of search engines is noticeably diminished due to algorithmic manipulation of search results, and the questionable quality of an increasing number of AI generated results, the world seems more and more like The Library of Babel! Depicted in short story form by Argentine author and librarian, Jorge Luis Borges and first published in 1941, the story of the Library of Babel speaks in an uncanny way to today’s information universe.
Readers and listeners are invited to join the Clarence Mitchell Library for a One Book One Highland read out and discussion of this classic short story.
You may read or listen to the story in advance (reading time is about 20 minutes) in order to feel more prepared for the discussion, but we will enjoy reading it out loud during the event, for those who haven’t yet encountered the story. Thematic refreshments will be served!

The Clarence Mitchell Library is on the 2nd floor of the Marvin Burt Liberal Arts Center, building M on campus maps.
