Chemistry

Students run an experiment in the chemistry lab.

If you have a passion for chemistry and a strong aptitude for math and science, you’ll feel right at home in Highland Community College’s Chemistry program. Throughout the course of our two-year Associate of Science (AS) program, you and your fellow students will conduct a range of experiments that analyze the composition, structure and properties of various substances.

With the use of professional-level chemistry instrumentation and access to our newly renovated lab, you’ll be empowered to conduct the kind of research that will be fundamental to ensuring a seamless transition to a baccalaureate degree program at a four-year university. And at HCC you won’t have to wait until you reach upper-level chemistry classes to start conducting research; you can start as early as freshman year.

With enough hood space for all students, our state-of-the-art chemistry lab is ADA accessible and arranged to facilitate group work, as well as conduct individual research. If interested, you’ll even have the opportunity to collaborate on chemistry projects with Northern Illinois University’s chemistry department. And if you want to further leverage your HCC education, ask your instructors to connect you with the Rock River chapter of the American Chemical Society where you can attend events and take advantage of scholarships and internships.
