HCC Advisory, COVID-19 Update
Latest Response Announcements
Restricted public access to campus
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:
My first and foremost concern is the safety and wellbeing of each of you during this COVID-19 pandemic. Although there is no known case at Highland, the Emergency Management team has decided that Highland Community College faculty will deliver all spring courses using alternate delivery through the end of the semester, May 13. Spring break will remain extended through March 27. Alternate delivery of classes will begin on March 30. No face-to-face instruction will take place on campus during the remaining weeks of the spring semester.
Possible exceptions for internships, clinicals, and laboratory programs have yet to be determined. At this time, all Highland courses will be taught using alternative assignments and online learning tools that instructors are already working to implement.
Alternate delivery of classes adheres to social distancing guidelines and helps to ensure the well-being of our students and community. Social distancing measures enable our campus to take proactive steps to fight against the spread of illness in areas where large groups congregate such as classrooms, cafeteria, and events.
Highland Community College is restricting public access to campus until May 10. This decision allows our institution to reduce the number of individuals on our campus in order to protect vulnerable populations and follow the CDC mass gathering recommendation.
All public and private campus tours of Highland, as well as college or community-sponsored events, remain discontinued until at least May 10.
While our regular business hours remain available, much of our staff is working remotely. A very limited number of employees remain on campus for essential work purposes only. However, staff and faculty remain available through their Highland phone and email.
Students should continue to check their Highland email and the highland.edu/hcc-advisory page for updates and resources.
Thank you for your patience while we continue to work through these challenging times together.
Sincerely,
Tim Hood, President
