FREEPORT — The Highland Community College Big Band will perform their Spring Concert on Friday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre located in the Ferguson Fine Arts Center. This concert is free and open to the public.

The Big Band, under the direction of Bill Petersen, is comprised of talented community members and Highland students.

This year, the Big Band will present a history of jazz in concert with selections from Louis Armstrong and 1930s big bands before switching to post-World War II jazz including Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson and Count Basie. The band will conclude its performance with music from today’s great jazz bands including Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band and selections from the group Radiohead.

In addition, the Big Band welcomes special guests The Jazz Alliance from Freeport, Illinois.
