Highland students and members from the community will showcase their talents with a performance of “Becoming One” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in the Fine Arts Theatre, Ferguson Fine Arts Center, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.
This is the first in a series of Black History Month events sponsored by the college.
Directed and staged by Robert Walker, a Highland student, “Becoming One” is based on the theme of “Greatness and Talents,” which allows performers to express and showcase their talents. The production is a musical showcase, complete with music, dance, and poetry.
This is the second year for Walker to direct a performance to coincide with Black History Month. Last year Walker directed “United as One.,” which focused on togetherness and history.
“This all started with a vision of unity for me,” Walker said. “This is a Black History production that incorporates black history through performance.”
The first 20 children through the door for the performance will receive a special gift from Walker. The performance is free, with a suggested donation of $10.
