Volunteer Literacy
The Volunteer Literacy Program recruits, trains and matches volunteer tutors with adult students. The support and encouragement that tutors provide is a key influence in the lives of students. Students show greater achievement when they have individual instruction.
Volunteers tutor students individually or in small groups.
Tutors help their communities by improving the lives of residents, one person at a time. Volunteers tutor when it’s convenient — morning, afternoon or evening, and in an academic subject area they enjoy.
About the Volunteer Literacy Program
Why do our tutors volunteer?
- I find it rewarding to be able to help someone understand what they want to learn.
- My main reason is to help people reach their goals. I also enjoy sharing my knowledge.
- To help people, give back to society, and share my talents.
- I love to teach people one on one. I enjoy math and want others to see it can be fun.
- Help someone like me whose native language is not English.
- I enjoy the activities with the students. It is very exciting to see them begin to understand and make progress with their English. Also, it is so interesting talking to them about their daily life and family.
- I have the time and enjoy working with people.
The support and encouragement tutors provide is a key influence in the lives of students, and students show greater achievement when they have individual instruction. By volunteering several hours a week, tutors are a source of inspiration.
