United Way Day of Action

In honor of our 60th anniversary, we are inviting staff and faculty to come together for a “feet on the street” moment by volunteering together for the United Way Day of Action.

United Way Day of Action is an annual event that offers opportunities for volunteers, organizations, and advocates to make a difference in people’s lives and communities. For many years, the United Way of Northwest Illinois has celebrated the Day of Action in our local community, and this year they are partnering with the Highland Servant Leaders Summer Serve Day to serve the local communities of Stephenson, Jo Daviess, and Carroll Counties. The event is scheduled for June 22.

As part of Highland’s 60th anniversary, we have set a goal to volunteer 60 service hours within the community. We encourage Highland employees to participate and connect with the community by volunteering for one of the projects. In the past, volunteers have installed a Born Learning Trail at the King Community Campus, put together and delivered Senior Care Packages, helped the Lena Lions Club move and organize Fall Festival booths, landscaped at the YMCA and Norman Sleezer Youth Home, cleaned up and landscaped at Grammercy Park in East Dubuque, and assisted at the Galena Food Pantry. Volunteer shifts are available in the morning or afternoon. The College will provide T-shirts to volunteers.

If you are interested in helping out in the community alongside Highland Servant Leadership students, please complete the survey link by May 19:

Additional information and confirmation of volunteer assignments will follow once received from the United Way.
