Join the Highland Speech and Debate Team for Our 2024 Spring Showcase on Thursday, March 14!
The Highland Speech and Debate Team has continued to reach new competitive heights with another amazing season so far, most recently earning 5th Place in the state at the IIFA State Tournament at Prairie State College on March 1-2. Now, the team is preparing for a strong showing at Nationals in Reno, NV! Before the team heads off, we are excited to invite you to our annual Spring Showcase event on Thursday, March 14 from 4:00-5:30 PM. This hybrid event may be attended either in-person in M204 or virtually using the Zoom link below.
One of the college’s oldest and most decorated student organizations, the Highland Speech and Debate Team (also known as the Forensics Team) travels the state and country to compete in a variety of performance styles ranging from public speaking to acting to poetry performance to debate. At this showcase, you’ll have the opportunity to watch eight different performances addressing a wide range of topics like…
- •A comedic persuasive speech about the crisis in rural EMS and fire services
•A poetry performance about the importance of learning how to say goodbye
•A persuasive speech about fraud in the hospice care industry
•An informative speech about an island country planning to become entirely virtual
•A communication analysis speech about a collection of murals protesting for women’s rights in Iran
•A prose performance about a young child learning to grapple with her imagination and its consequences
•An impromptu speech in which the speaker has to create an entire speech based off of a prompt in less than two minutes!
•A duo interpretation performance exploring the deeper meaning of the color pink
