Highland Community College Lifelong Learning April and May courses include CBD Oil and Medical Marijuana – What You Should Know, Bird Houses for Spring, Microsoft Excel Fundamentals, History of the Stephenson County Fair, and Smartphone Basics for iPhone held in-person and online. Courses being held in person will be practicing social distancing and masks will be required. Others have the option to attend through Zoom™. CBD Oil and Medical Marijuana – What You Should Know

Location: Highland Community College, Student/Conference Center (Building H), room H-127, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

There are many stories about the use and abuse of CBD oil and medical marijuana. Learn the facts about these two current health trends in the news.

Bird Houses for Spring

Location: Freeport Art Museum, 121 N. Harlem Ave., Freeport, Ill.

Registration deadline: March 31

Class: April 7; 6 — 8 p.m.

Fee: $52

Spring is right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than preparing a new pretty home for the birds. Paint birdhouses with bright, colorful designs, or create an original. Brighten up the yard and make a bird happy. All materials provided. No experience is necessary.

Microsoft Excel Fundamentals

Location: Highland Community College, (Building T), room T-159, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

Class: April 15; 1 — 3 p.m.

Learn the basics to get started using Microsoft Excel. This class will include a hands-on overview of the Excel workspace and the creation of a basic inventory spreadsheet where it can apply formatting and complete calculations using formulas and functions.

History of the Stephenson County Fair

Instructor: Susie Dvorak

Join local fair historian Susie Dvorak as she shares her extensive research on the history of the Stephenson County Fair. See fair memorabilia, hear stories, and learn interesting facts about the fair including where it was held and how it evolved through the years.

Smartphone Basics – iPhone

Location: Highland Community College, (Building T), room T-140, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

Registration deadline: April 15

Class: Apr. 22; 1 — 3 p.m.

Fee: $25

Instructor: Jeremy Monigold

Learn more about the iPhone. The class will include an overview of the basic features, managing contacts, modifying settings, how to keep the phone secure, and more. Time is reserved at the end of class for questions.
