Auditions held for Highland’s fall production of ‘Newsies’

Auditions for Highland Community College Theatre Arts Department’s fall production of “Newsies” will be held on Monday, Aug. 27, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre located in the Ferguson Fine Arts Center on the campus of Highland Community College, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

 

“Newsies,” the musical, is inspired by the real-life Newsboys in 1899 in New York City. The show has music by Allen Menken; lyrics by Jack Feldman and is based on the book by Harvey Fierstein. It made a Broadway debut in 2012, where it played for 1,000 performances before embarking on a national tour. It is also based on the Disney film.

 

The auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. The director is seeking actors, singers, and dancers of all ethnicities. No prepared songs and monologues are required. Those individuals auditioning will be given readings from the script and will be taught a song for the audition. No previous experience is necessary.
