Clarence Mitchell Library at HCC presents ‘Palindrome,’ a workshop for National Poetry Month

To celebrate National Poetry Month, Highland Community is hosting guest speaker, Matt Muse, a teaching artist from Young Chicago Authors (YCA), to lead a poetry workshop, “Palindrome,” at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, in the Clarence Mitchell Library at Highland Community College, 2998 West Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

YCA Teaching Artists show students different approaches to writing, often using pieces by acclaimed contemporary poets and lyricists as a starting point, and give students writing prompts to begin the work of crafting individual and group pieces. All of YCA’s work asks students to approach writing as experts of their own experiences.

Matt Muse is a Hip-Hop artist, producer, and songwriter born and raised on Chicago’s South Side. He started his musical career as a student at Northern Illinois University, performing at multiple shows on the schools’ campus and other Illinois colleges. He graduated with a Bachelor’s in Corporate Communication in May 2016.

Matt’s music has been featured on Sway in the Morning and Vocalo FM Chicago. Performances throughout Chicago include AAHH! Fest 2016, TIP Fest, CiMM Fest, and many other venues and shows. Matt was a featured speaker at the NIU TedX event on April 23, 2016, where he did a ‘TED Talk’ discussing Hip-Hops impact on his life and how it can change the world artistically and socially.

The workshop is free and open to the public. For questions about the event contact Laura Watson at 815-599-3456 or laura.watson@highland.edu.
