Experience the Madrigal dinner at Highland

Take a step back in time to the 16th century, where English costumes and harmonious music herald in the Christmas season with the traditional concert with a capella carols. Experience the recreation of a Yuletide feast, complete with Jester and Wench, Royal Court, Ladies in Waiting, Knights and a magnificent meal.

Join the King and Queen as they sit on stage at a table before an audience that feasts on all the trimmings: Wassail (hot apple cider), the “boars head” (roast pork) and Figgy Pudding (bread pudding).

Watch the King’s Jester and the Wench entertain audience members serving as the “Masters of Ceremonies” for the evening. There will be plenty of toasts, jokes, comic performances, and brilliant costumes provided by Linda Foat.

Jeffrey DeLay, Music Instructor, and Choral Music Director, said this is an event steeped in tradition. The scenes presented are woven among the courses of the meal and set up the sweet messages of the Christmas carols. It is an experience that has the audience coming away from having an evening filled with a holiday feast, lots of laughter, and a chance to marvel at the vocal talent of the ensemble.

“This is a re-creation of a Yuletide Feast in a Medieval English Castle,” DeLay said. “It is a magnificent meal, glorious music, laughter and a celebration of the season that await our guests.”

Performances will be held at 7 p.m. on December 1 and 2 in the Student/Conference Center, second floor.

Tickets are $38 per person and tables will accommodate groups of eight. Seating is limited for these evening performances. Tickets must be ordered by November 22, and are available at www.highland.edu, or by calling the HCC box office at 815.599.3718.
