Foundation hosts “Night at the Theatre” Saturday, May 10

FREEPORT—The Highland Community College Foundation is inviting the community to an unforgettable evening at their annual celebration. A “Night at the Theatre” Gala will take place Saturday, May 10. The celebration will kick off at 4:30 p.m. on Highland’s campus in Freeport, IL with a theme inspired by the Fine Arts Program, in honor of the 50th anniversary of Summerset Theatre.

This event includes the presentation of two prestigious awards. The Foundation will honor former Highland Trustee and Foundation Board Member Emeritus David Shockey with the Delbert Scheider Lifetime Achievement Award for his lasting impact and unwavering support of the College. They will also celebrate retired faculty member Alan Wenzel with the Patricia Dunn Timeless Service Award, recognizing his enduring commitment to Highland as a beloved film instructor and founder of community leadership programs.

What to expect: The evening begins at 4:30 p.m. with a complimentary drink, hearty hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment, and a silent auction. Guests will be invited to join the “$6,000 in 60 Minutes” challenge to support students in emergency financial need before heading to the theatre at 6:15 p.m. for the program. The evening will close with local favorite rock band, FreeFall, as they play the classic hits.

Dan Dick, Executive Director of the Foundation, shared, “This is an exciting, meaningful, and fun event. I’m proud to shine the spotlight on the HOPE Emergency Fund, which makes a real difference in the lives of our students. I also look forward to celebrating the talents of the Royal Scots, sharing transformational updates, hearing from President Christina Kuberski about the many exciting developments at Highland, and honoring Alan and David.”
