HCC Concert Band and HCC Orchestra to hold an evening of music for Fall Concert

The HCC Concert Band and the HCC Orchestra will hold their Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 10 in the Fine Arts Theatre in the Ferguson Fine Arts Center.

The Concert Band will be conducted by Scott Stich. The Concert Band will also be welcoming guest bassoon soloist, Emily Stich Foley to the stage. Foley is a graduate of the University of Michigan, and has a Master of Music degree in bassoon. She has performed in master classes for the principal players of the Philadelphia, Vancouver, Buffalo and Minnesota Orchestras, as well as the New York Philharmonic.

While at the University of Michigan, Foley played regularly with the award-winning symphony band under the baton of Michael Haithcock and H. Robert Reynolds, and in chamber groups coached by Martin Katz and Nancy Ambrose King. An avid chamber musician and coach, she has performed with the Khemia Ensemble in participation with the Latin is America festival at Michigan State University, in various groups at the American University in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, and participated in premiers of the music of Dr. David Vayo. She has enjoyed coaching with colleagues at Illinois Wesleyan, as well as the Michigan Youth Bands. 

Musical selections are “National Emblem” by E.E. Bagley, with guest conductor, Ben Randecker; “Scenes from a Comedy,” by Philip Sparke; “Nimrod from Enigma Variations” by Edward Elgar, with guest conductor Renee Gapinski Schultz; “Symphony in B flat Mvmt 1” by Paul Hindemith; “October” by Eric Whitacre and “Hungarian Fantasy,” by Andante and Hungarian Rondo and Carl Maria von Weber, with guest soloist, Emily Stich Foley.

The Highland Concert Band will be performing some traditional and contemporary works. Foley will be performing the “Andante and the Rondo” from the Weber Concertino.
