Lifelong Learning November course details:

Pizza

Location: St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1010 S. Park Blvd., Freeport, Ill.

Would you like to learn how to make great pizza, and the history of pizza? This traditional Italian dish typically consists of a thin layer of bread dough topped with spiced tomato sauce and cheese. A wide variety of garnishes are also used. Included will be the history of pizza. Please bring containers to take what you make home.

Medicine of the Civil War

Location: Galena Public Library, 601 S. Bench St., Galena, Ill.

The creation of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Galena started as the idea of Gordon E. Dammann, D.D.S. He began collecting in 1972 and felt a museum would be a good way to share his collection. Dammann is the author of the three-volume Pictorial Encyclopedia of Civil War Medical Instruments and Equipment, co-author of Images of Civil War Medicine-A Photographic History, and editor of the reprint Memoirs of Jonathan Letterman, MD Surgeon of US Army 1861-1864.

Windows 10

Windows 10 has many built-in features such as BitLocker, Windows Defender Antivirus, the ability to access all your files, folders and apps from anywhere on any device with remote desktop, Windows Ink, Paint 3D and more. Learn about these features of Windows 10 and more. Also, learn the similarities between prior versions of Windows and 10. Bring your Windows 10 laptop to class and immediately apply what you are learning.

Coding

Curious about coding? This course will define what coding is and what it can do. It will also identify the basic types of programming languages and the importance of good algorithm design. Participants will be introduced to multiple coding environments including programming for Web-based and desktop applications.

Spanish Movie Night-Nov. 8, All About My Mother, (Spain)

There will be a brief introduction about the culture and importance of this topic before the showing and a discussion afterward. A single mother goes to Barcelona to find her son’s father, a transgender woman who does not know she has a child. The movie — which is a “comedy-drama”— is about gender, femininity, motherhood, family, identity and self-definition, gender roles, and stereotypes.

The Great Photography Workshop (and Photo Contest)

Location: Rock Valley College, 3301 N. Mulford Rd, Rockford, Ill.

Join us for this wonderful opportunity to learn more about photography, and to enter your best images in the photo contest. Your class fee includes one 8×10 photo (max size) entry, and you will have access to some great information at the workshop. If you want, we will clean and check your camera for $20 while the session is going on, and you will enjoy presentations by Nikon Professional Services during the workshop. Enter additional photos for $10 each. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards in each of the five categories (Photojournalism, People/Animals, Architecture, Scapes, Photographer’s Choice).
