HCC Lifelong Learning offers October schedule to include in-person and online classes

Highland Community College Lifelong Learning October courses include World War II in the Philippines, 3D Printing, and Assassination of Lincoln at HCC and online. Some courses are held in person, while everyone practices social distancing, wearing a mask and others have the option to attend through Zoom™. Lifelong Learning October course details:

Intro to Oxy-Acetylene Welding

Location: Highland Community College, Building T, room T-129, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

Registration deadline: Oct. 5

Class: Oct. 12; 5:30 — 8 p.m.

Fee: $37

Instructor: Roger Hicks

Welding is a popular hobby and an in-demand career. Learn about oxy-acetylene welding from one of Highland’s welding instructors with a chance to learn more in a for-credit class. This is a hands-on class. Please dress to safely work in a shop including long sleeves, long pants, closed toe shoes, and no loose clothing.

Collage Journal

Location: Freeport Art Museum, 121 N. Harlem Ave., Freeport, Ill.

Registration deadline: Oct. 13

Class: Oct. 20; 6 —8 p.m.

Fee: $37

Instructor: Cindy Bielefeldt

In this class, we will create unique journals, concentrating on cover art. Using a variety of materials and techniques, each will be an expression of a personal vision. Supplies are furnished.

World War II in the Philippines

Dive into the details surrounding WWII events in the Philippines including important battles, resistance to Guerrilla units, POW and internment camp liberations, and the equipment and weapons used by the Americans and Japanese.

3D Printing

Location: Highland Community College, Building T, room T-140, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

Class: Oct. 22; 6 — 8 p.m.

Learn how three dimensional (3D) solid objects are created as a digital file and then printed as a 3D model. Features of several types of 3D printers and how these printers are being utilized in homes and businesses will be covered. Watch a 3D printer in action and better understand the programming used to create the object.

Illinois Fights for the Union – HCC
