HCC Lifelong Learning offers September schedule to include in-person and online classes

Highland Community College Lifelong Learning September courses include Cahokia and the Mississippian Culture, Chair Yoga, Write Your Life Story – Online. Some courses will be held in person, while practicing social distancing and everyone wearing a mask while others have the option on Zoom™. Cahokia and the Mississippian Culture – Highland and Online (Zoom)

Location: Highland Community College, Building H, room H-210, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill. or Zoom.

Registration deadline: Sept. 8
Class: Sept. 15; 6 — 7:30 p.m.
Fee: $21

Instructor: Mark Peterson

Learn about Cahokia, the largest and most influential urban settlement of the Mississippian culture dating from 700 – 1400 A.D. Located just east of St. Louis, MO, Cahokia is considered the largest and most complex archaeological site north of Mexico’s pre-Columbian cities. Students must have internet access and video chatting capabilities using Zoom.

Strategies for Building Your Business During Challenging Times – Online (Zoom)

Location: Zoom

Registration deadline: Sept. 17

Class date Sept. 24; 6 — 8 p.m.

Fee: $25

2020 has been a difficult year for both businesses and nonprofits and economic recovery is equally challenging. This class will provide tips and resources for navigating the current economic climate and growing or launching a business for small business entrepreneurs and those getting started. This is an online class. Students must have internet access and video chatting capabilities using Zoom.

Chair Yoga – Highland and Online (Zoom)

Class dates: Sep. 29, Oct. 6, 13, 20; 8 — 9 a.m.

Yoga is for everyone – and helps with stress, fatigue, pain, joint lubrication, and balance. Enjoy the benefits of yoga while maintaining balance and stability through chair yoga. Bring a yoga block; yoga straps or therabands or a long scarf; and yoga socks or hospital socks with grips. Going barefoot is also an option. Students must have internet access and video chatting capabilities using Zoom.

Sunflower Painting Workshop – Online (Zoom)

Location: Zoom

Registration deadline: Sept. 24

Class date: Oct. 1; 6 — 8 p.m.

Fee: $19

Instructor: Jessica Anderson

Join us for an online paint party using Zoom. The instructor will show step-by-step how to paint a pretty sunflower using acrylic paint, paint brush, and an acrylic paint pen on an 8”x 8” canvas. Students must have internet access and video chatting capabilities using Zoom.  

Internet Settings, Defaults and Security – Online (Zoom)

Location: Zoom

Registration deadline: Sept. 29

Class dates: Oct. 6, 13; 6:30 — 8 p.m.

Fee: $33

Instructor: Shara Ibalio

Learn how to increase internet speeds, stop pop-ups, save passwords, sync Google accounts, and check internet privacy and security. This is an online class. Students must have internet access and video chatting capabilities using Zoom.
