Highland Community College Concert Band Holds Fall Show

FREEPORT — The Highland Community College Concert Band will hold their fall concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4 in the Fine Arts Center Theatre in the Ferguson Fine Arts Center, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

Under the direction of Scott Stich, the concert band will be playing the following song selections:
• Selections from “Sweeney Todd” by Stephen Sondheim, arranged by Stephen Bulla.
• “Festival Variations” by Claude T. Smith.
• “The Carl Sandburg March” by Dr. Thompson Brandt.
• “Concerto for Bassoon in Bb Major, K191, Movement 1” by W. A. Mozart, arranged by David Werden and featuring bassoon soloist Emily Stich.
• “Play!” by Carl Holmquist.
• “Earth, Wind & Fire in Concert,” arranged by Richard Saucedo.

“Our College Concert Band features 43 wind and percussion players this year, and we are excited to feature an original composition by Highland’s own Dr. Thompson Brandt, as well as band alumnus Emily Stich as our Mozart soloist on bassoon,” said Stich. “In addition to these original and classical pieces, the ensemble is playing some pops and some traditional wind music. We think you’ll enjoy this exciting lineup with something for everyone!”
