The Highland Community College Job Fair has gone virtual for 2020. The virtual job fair is Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in an open house format, allowing attendees to drop in and drop out. Attendees will need to register for the free event.

“A majority of employers are conducting interviews through some-sort of online format. I hope that this new format will help attendees feel more comfortable interviewing virtually for a job, and allow them to make gainful connections with local employers,” explained Antony Musso, Career Services Coordinator.

To help prepare attendees for the new virtual format, Highland Career Services hosts a pre-job fair retreat on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m.- noon. Topics include how to write cover letters, resume, and give a personal presentation.

After the main event, a post-job fair retreat will allow attendees to look at social media ethics and interviewing skills on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 3-5 p.m.

“This virtual format for job fairs may be here to stay,” said Musso. “Around 60 percent of career centers say that they expect virtual fairs and events to become accepted standard practice moving forward.”

A limited number of computers are available during the virtual job fair on the second floor of the Student/Conference Center (building H), 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, IL. Limited seating is available for the pre-and post-Job Fair retreats. While on campus, people must not have COVID-19 symptoms, wear a mask, practice social distancing, and use hand sanitizer.

Attendees must register for the Job Fair and/or the retreat by emailing or contacting Anthony Musso at anthony.musso@highland.edu or 815-599-3597.
