The 2020 Highland Community College 2020 Virtual Job Fair will be held Tuesday, Nov. 17 located on the second floor of the Student/Conference Center (Building H) room H-201 Highland Community College, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

“Due to the unknowns of COVID-19, we chose to make the job fair virtual, which was originally scheduled in April this year,” said Anthony Musso, Career Services Coordinator. “We hope that this platform makes it easier for businesses, students, and the public.”

Highland plans on having on-campus computers available for students and the public. While on campus, people must not have COVID-19 symptoms, wear a mask, practice social distancing, wear a mask, and use hand sanitizer.

“This virtual format for Job Fairs may be here to stay,” said Musso. “Around 60 percent of career centers say that they expect virtual fairs and events to become accepted standard practice moving forward.”

To help prepare for the new virtual format, Highland is also offering a pre-job fair retreat on Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m.- noon. Topics will include how to write cover letters, resume, and give a personal presentation. The meeting is in the Conference/Student Center, room H-201, with virtual attendance options.

After the main event, a post-job fair retreat will allow attendees to look at social media ethics and interviewing skills on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 3-5 p.m. also in the Conference/Student Center, room H-201, with virtual attendance options.

“Conducting and planning a virtual job fair is a new concept to Highland and will serve as a learning experience. Career Services looks forward to seeing how this will turn out and how we can improve future virtual career fairs and events,” explained Musso.
