Highland Lifelong Learning offers new courses in February

Terrarium Bottle

Location: Clara Joyce Flowers, 13493 E. Blair Hill Road, Stockton

Registration Deadline: Jan. 25

Class: Feb. 1; 6-7 p.m.

Fee: $75

Instructor: Drew Groezinger

Learn about tips and tricks for growing indoor houseplant terrariums, and make a large 14″ terrarium bottle! All supplies are included.

Maple Syrup 101

Location: Highland Community College, Student/Conference Center (Building H), room H-127, 2998 W. Pearl City Road, Freeport

Registration Deadline: Feb. 7

Class: Feb. 14, 21, 28; 6-7:30 p.m.

Fee: $39

Instructor: Bob Sutter

This class is for the beginner backyard hobby producer who wants to start making maple syrup and put out a few taps. Attendees will learn how to tap a tree, collect the sap, process it into syrup and refine their techniques for bottling.

Espresso Drinks and How to Order Them

Location: Higher Grounds Coffee, 1709 S. West Avenue, Freeport, Ill.

Class: Feb. 17; 10-11:30 a.m.

Fee: $19

Beginning Wheel-Thrown Pottery

Location: Highland Community College, Student/Conference Center (Building F), room F-053, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport

Registration Deadline: Feb. 12

Class: Feb. 19, 26 and March 4, 11; 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Fee: $99

Instructor: Dana Russell-Brown

Learn basic wheel-throwing skills as well as glazing techniques. Bring an apron, towel and a pottery tool kit (available at the HCC bookstore, online or craft stores). No experience is necessary.

Soft Pastel for Beginners

Location: Elizabeth Business Hub, 131 N. Main St. Elizabeth

Registration Deadline: Feb. 14

Class: Feb. 21; 6-8 p.m.

Fee: $29

Instructor: Brian Engle

Learn the basic techniques, color blending and composition, as well as how to create beautiful, vibrant pastel paintings! A set of pastels and paper will be provided.
