Highland Community College’s international honors society Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter has announced that Staci Hammer of Lena and John Werkheiser of Pearl City were named to the All-Illinois Academic team during a banquet held on April 4 in Springfield.
The All-Illinois Academic Team recognizes high-achieving two-year college students who demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual rigor, combined with leadership and service that extend their education beyond the classroom to benefit society.
Staci Hammer will graduate in May from Highland with an Associate of Science Degree in Pre-Pharmacy. She is a former Student Trustee on the Highland Board of Trustees, is an active member of PTK, serving as president, and has been a Records Officer for the Illinois Community College Board Student Advisory Committee. She plans to transfer to Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois or Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa to study biochemistry.
John Werkheiser will graduate in May with an Associate of Engineering Science, Associate of Science, and an Associate of Arts. While a student at Highland, he has been active in the Physical Science Club, Chess Club and Student Organization Visual Arts (SOVA). He is still investigating transfer institutions and is considering a career in electrical engineering.
