Highland to hold auditions for ‘Jane Addams Festival of New Plays’

Auditions for Highland Community College Theatre Arts Department’s spring theatre production of “Jane Addams Festival of New Plays” will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 in the Fine Arts Theatre located in the Ferguson Fine Arts Center at Highland Community College, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

No previous acting experience is necessary to audition. Children ages 5 or older and adults of all ages are sought. Highland students, faculty and staff and community members are welcome to audition. Highland Community College’s Theatre Arts Department actively seeks multi-cultural casts. You do not need a prepared monologue to audition.

“We received over 60 entries from professional playwrights across the United States and from two countries for this festival,” said Laura Early, Theater Instructor. “The evening will consist of three 10-minute plays and one act, from Bread and Peace adapted from the writings of Jane Addams by Russell Vandenbroucke, former Artistic Director of Chicago’s Northlight Theatre.”

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. March 7, March 8 and March 9.

Jane Addams was a Stephenson County native and Nobel Peace Prize, winner. Founder of Chicago’s Hull House, Addams is considered one of the leaders in the field of social work. The plays produced for the festival are based on the life, writings, and work of Jane Addams.
